Women's Democracy Network-Uganda Chapter (WDN-U) is a local civil society women's rights Organization affiliated with the Women's Democracy Network (WDN) www.wdn.org that seeks to empower women to pursue activism and leadership in the public sphere to enhance gender equality. Since its establishment in 2011, WDN-U has sought to ensure gender parity in political office by providing capacity building for women leaders and leagues of political parties in leadership, advocacy, campaign planning and political campaigning, strategic planning, and the use of new technology. WDN-U has identified challenges faced by women politicians and has developed training modules and handbooks on best practices to enhance the effectiveness of women leaders. At the local level, WDN-U has facilitated the establishment of women's caucuses in the districts Arua, Adjumani, Koboko, Nebbi, and Yumbe in the West Nile region.
WDN-U has worked to improve the technological literacy of women elected officials. WDN-U also empowers citizens and leaders, media, and NGOs with the knowledge and skills necessary to constructively engage in order to find solutions to issues that affect governance, gender equality, and human rights, particularly women's rights; accountability, and service delivery in their respective communities. WDN-U implements economic empowerment programs for women by strengthening their existing groups with knowledge and skills to expand their enterprises and address issues affecting women's social rights through group structures.
Further WDN-U implements leadership programs for young women and men and school children in the West Nile region to empower and mentor them to harness their full potential. At the regional level, WDN-U has worked with coordinators and Chapters of WDN to establish WDN-Africa. This has expanded WDN-U's regional work on enhancing women's political leadership for women's rights and gender equality
